Ray posted the second-best individual average (213.3), and highest of any NEC competitor, at the Terriers’ New Year Knockdown (Jan. 10-11) to earn her first career weekly accolade from the league office. The sophomore amassed a total pinfal of 1,493 over seven traditional games in helping Kutztown to an eventual second-place finish at the seven-team competition that hosted five NEC members. Ray used her high game of 236 to power Kutztown past perennial national championship contender New Jersey City University in traditional team play on the tournament’s opening day. She failed to reach the 200-pin mark only once on the weekend, rolling a score of 182 against host St. Francis (NY) in what was the Golden Bears’ only other defeat aside from its 4-3 baker loss to New Jersey City . Ray is the second Golden Bear to earn NEC Bowler of the Week honors during the conference’s inaugural season of women’s bowling, joining freshman teammate Kayla Jones.
