Ptacek earns his first Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week accolade after setting new career-highs with 20 points and six rebounds as CCSU won its fourth straight home game with a 67-56 win over Princeton on Saturday. He connected on 6-8 field goals, including 4-4 from three-point distance, and went 4-5 from the line and added two assists in 39 minutes of action. With NEC leading scorer Ken Horton out for much of the first half with foul trouble, Ptacek elevated his game, scoring nine of the Blue Devils’ 23 first half points on a perfect 3-3 shooting from the floor as the Blue Devils climbed back from a nine-point deficit. In the second half, he hit a pair of back-breaking trifectas on consecutive possessions to turn a two-point halftime lead into an eight-point advantage just two minutes in. Ptacek’s 20 points marked his first 20-point output of the season and raised his season average to 10.2 ppg, second on the Blue Devils and fifth among NEC freshman. A native of Bayport, NY, he is third in the NEC in free throw percentage (.857) and sixth in three-point percentage (.435).
