Gart becomes the first Pioneer to win the NEC Player of the Week award since teammate Chris Ujkic received the honor last season (Mar. 25, 2008). The Sacred Heart junior won two singles matches, both in straight sets, and a doubles contest at Yale’s Connecticut State Championships. Gart earned a first-round victory over Hartford’s Aneil Bhalla, 6-2, 6-3, before downing the seeded Mark Kremheller of Fairfield, 6-2, 6-1. Gart’s run ended in Round of 16 when he retired in the second set of his bout with eventual semifinalist Josh Lederman. Teaming with Michael Syer in doubles play, Gart earned an 8-6 victory over UConn’s Matthew Burns and Nic Visinski before falling to a duo from Hartford.
