Hughes is becoming comfortable in occupying the NEC Men’s Player of the Week post. The Quinnipiac junior won his first two singles matches at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Yale, to garner his third consecutive weekly conference award. Hughes came back from down a set to defeat Fairfield’s Rob Ferrante, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3, and earn entry in the Round of 64. In his second match, Hughes built a lead (6-3, 6-7, 3-2) over Dartmouth’s Daniel Freeman before the Ivy Leaguer retired. The third-year Bobcat was unable to continue his run past the Round of 32 where he fell to Penn State’s Brendan Lynch.
