Janssen becomes the first goalkeeper to earn Brine/NEC Rookie of the Week honors in nearly three years after posting a pair of shutouts to lead the surging Blackbirds into a first place tie with a 3-1 conference mark. Janssen saved six shots - including two key stops in a nine-second span in the 17th minute - in a 1-0 win at Saint Francis (PA) on Friday, then turned away three more in a 2-0 conquest of Robert Morris on Sunday to record his second shutout of the week and fourth of the season for the Blackbirds, who have won three straight and eight of their last nine matches. Janssen has started the last six contests for Long Island, allowing just five goals and posting three shutouts. On the season, the Toronto, Ontario product has posted a 6-3 record and ranks fifth in the NEC with a 1.09 goals against average. Prior to Janssen, the last NEC netminder to claim a weekly rookie honor was current Sacred Heart senior Matt Jones, who was tabbed on October 24th, 2005.
