With CCSU’s top two linebackers, Chris Stimmel and Blair Smart, departing after last season, Cooke stepped up to make a career-high 12 tackles from his middle linebacker spot in the Blue Devils’ season-opening victory over Bryant. None of Cooke’s stops were bigger than his last. With under four minutes remaining and CCSU clinging to a 42-35 lead, Cooke teamed up with Roberto Rodriguez to drop Bryant’s Lindsey Gamble for a four-yard loss on third down. Cooke’s day included two tackles for loss and a pass break-up.
