Even more impressive than Walko’s .500 (8-for-16) batting average during a week that included seven RBI and eight runs scored was his ability to reach base in the Blue Devils’ four-game series with Long Island. Fifteen of Walko’s 19 plate appearances against the NEC rival Blackbirds resulted in the junior outfielder reaching base safely. Walko went 6-for-12 at the plate, earned three bases on balls, was hit by a pitch four times, and reached twice via errors in helping Central Connecticut State take three of the four league contests. Walko delivered timely hits too, highlighted by his bases-loaded, two-RBI single during a five-run, ninth inning rally that yielded a 7-6 opening-game victory. The junior outfielder drove in two runs and scored another five during a 16-3, game-three triumph before closing out the series with a RBI and two runs scored in a 19-3 CCSU victory.
