After enjoying an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, the freshman continued his impressive play by defeating Sean Pease, 6-3, 6-4, at third singles. Girling, who occupied each of the top three singles slots on at least one occasion during his rookie campaign, owns a 5-1 mark in dual match play at No. 3 singles.
