Higgins amassed a .500 batting average this past week while safely hitting his way on base and driving in a run during each of Monmouth’s five games. The senior shortstop opened his week with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate in Monmouth’s 9-7 victory over Penn State before closing it out with a four hits in six at-bats during a 7-4 extra-inning triumph over Maine. Higgins, who scored six runs and drove in five on the week, produced the second of Monmouth’s three 12th-inning runs that did in Maine with an RBI triple and later scored the third run of the frame on a fielder’s choice. Currently riding a seven-game hit streak, Higgins is fortifying Monmouth’s defense up the middle as well. During an error-less week, the 6’1” senior registered 20 assists and seven putouts.
