Nainima’s back-to-back 24-point performances pushed Long Island over the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season and landed the reigning NEC Player of the Year on the Choice Hotels Weekly Honor Roll. The sophomore guard averaged 22.0 points per game over three productive outings this past week to snare her third NEC Player of the Week award of 2007-08. After racking up 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists against league-leading Quinnipiac last Monday, Nainima combined stellar shooting and smothering defense in the two ensuing LIU victories. The 5-5 floor general shot 11-of-19 from the field en route to 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and a win over intra-borough rival St. Francis (NY). Nainima poured in another 24 points to do in Monmouth on 10-of18 shooting. In addition to producing on the offensive end, Nainima bolstered Long Island’s nationally-ranked scoring defense, which held both St. Francis (NY) (42) and Monmouth (48) under 50 points, by recording nine steals over two games. Her five thefts against SFNY set a career high.
