Horton joins classmate David Simmons as CCSU winners of the Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week award following a terrific all-around effort in the Blue Devils’ 75-64 win over Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday. Horton posted career-highs with 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks to lead CCSU to their second straight conference victory. He hit 8-12 shots from the floor, including 2-2 from three-point range, and drained 4-5 from the free throw line. The 20-point effort was the second of his career, while the seven blocks were the most by an NEC player this season and the most by a freshman since the Mount’ Melvin Whitaker rejected eight on March 1, 1999. Horton, who hails from Ossining, NY, leads the conference with 2.3 bpg and ranks seventh in field goal percentage (.537). He is the second-leading freshman scorer in the league with 10.9 ppg and has pulled down 4.5 rpg. Horton also paces the Blue Devils in three-point percentage (.417).
