Rutty becomes the third Quinnipiac player to claim Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining teammates Evann Baker (a two-time winner) and Ed Zajac. Rutty averaged 9.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg and shot 66.7 percent from the field in the Bobcats’ 1-2 week. He started with seven points and five rebounds in an 86-84 overtime loss to Cornell on Monday, before narrowly missing his first career double-double with 10 points (5-7 FG) and nine boards in a 74-61 conquest of Saint Francis (PA) in Loretto on Thursday. The Newburgh, NY product then hit 5-6 shots from the floor and finished with 12 points and six rebounds in an 86-79 setback to visiting Robert Morris on Saturday. For the year, Rutty is averaging 7.6 ppg and ranks second among all NEC freshman with 5.8 rpg. He also paces the Bobcats and ranks third in the NEC in field goal shooting at 55.4 percent.
