Lehto was one of two Long Island players to record their first career hat tricks in a 7-3 win at St. Francis (NY) on Saturday. Lehto opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he headed in a cross from Emiliano Tramontozzi, then tallied his second goal just 17 seconds later when he scored on a chip shot from 25 yards out. The Lahti, Finland native would put the finishing touches on the Blackbirds’ second straight win when he scored the game’s final goal in the 86th minute on a breakaway off a feed from senior midfielder Vincenzo Conigliaro. The seven goals were the most by a Long Island team since the Blackbirds beat Iona, 7-3, in 1996 and the most in an NEC contest since CCSU defeated Monmouth, 7-1, on November 7, 2003. It was also the highest scoring NEC game in the last decade, edging out UMBC’s 7-2 win over Long Island on October 17, 1999. Lehto and teammate Ryan Williams - who also had a hat trick in the win - are tied for the team lead with four goals and eight points on the year.
