Wilson, who notched the game-winning goal to lead Monmouth to the 2006 NEC championship, struck again in the Hawks’ season-opening 1-0 win over #16 North Carolina on Friday in the opener of the Carolina Nike Classic. Wilson took a feed from Ryan Kinne in the 55th minute and beat Tarheel keeper Deric Tyler with a 12-yard blast into the corner of the net. The biggest win in program history, it also marked the first season-opening loss for North Carolina since 1997. Wilson, a Swedesboro, NJ product who was named to the All-Tournament team, also had a shot attempt in a tightly-contested 2-0 setback to #3 Wake Forest on Sunday. When factoring in a 1-1 tie against #6 Virginia in 2005, the Hawks are now 1-1-1 against ranked ACC opponents over the last three seasons.
