Sweetney wins his league-leading fourth Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie of the Week award for his role in the Red Flash’s 2-0 week. He averaged 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as Saint Francis won for the third time in the last four games. In a 73-72 road victory over second place Quinnipiac on Thursday, Sweetney tallied eight points and eight boards. Playing the role of spoiler against visiting Long Island on Saturday, the Red Flash earned a 72-56 win as Sweetney secured his sixth double-double of the season - the most by an NEC freshman since the Mount’s Pat Atangana recorded six in 2000-01 - with 13 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high tying five assists. The Washington, D.C. product currently leads all NEC freshman with 12.8 ppg (18th in NEC), 7.7 rpg (second in NEC), an 84.2 percent accuracy rate from the stripe (fourth in NEC) and his aforementioned six double-doubles (third in NEC). Sweetney’s 357 points this season rank fifth among freshmen in school history, while his 216 rebounds are the most for a Red Flash player since Reiner Mougnol pulled down 230 in 2001-02. If his .842 free throw percentage holds up, it would be a Saint Francis rookie record.
