Sweeney led the Hawks with nine tackles in Saturday’s win over Albany. The senior defensive end had the game’s only sack and both of Monmouth’s tackles-for-loss. Sweeney was part of a defense that held Albany to 174 total yards in the game, including 57 yards rushing. Before their final drive of the game, Albany had managed just 118 yards. Sweeney and the Hawk defense forced the Great Danes into five three-and-outs and was a major reason that MU held a 36:38-to-23:22 time-of-possession advantage. Sweeney is Monmouth’s top defensive lineman in tackles, leading the potent front four with 38 stops on the season. The 19-0 win marked the second shutout of the season for the Hawk defense. Sweeney earns his first career NEC Defensive Player of the Week award.
