Hanson scored the biggest goal of the season for the Blackbirds, who earned their first-ever NEC regular season title and the right to host the NEC Tournament with a 1-0 win over Monmouth and 3-0 conquest of Mount St. Mary’s last week. With Monmouth a point ahead of Long Island in the standings heading into last Friday’s showdown, Hanson came off the bench to score the game’s lone goal just before the conclusion of the first half. She took a long free kick from Nicole Allen and deposited the ball into the upper left corner of the net. Two days later against the Mount, she assisted on Lizelle Jackson’s game-winner in the 19th minute, and drew the foul that led to Ashley O’Connor’s penalty kick in the 41st minute. Hanson ranks second in the NEC with eight goals on the season, and is fourth with 17 points. The New Milford, NJ product’s eight markers also established a school single-season record for freshman, eclipsing the seven goals scored by Selima Berisha in 2003. Long Island will take on #4 seeded Sacred Heart on Friday at 11:00 am in the first NEC semfinal of the day.
