Chappell’s fifth Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week award this season comes after he averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in the Colonials’ 2-1 week. He finished with 15 points, three steals and a pair of rejections in a 93-78 setback at first place Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday. Upon returning home on Thursday, Chappell netted 19 points, including 4-7 from beyond the arc, along with six rebounds as the Colonials snapped a three-game losing streak with a 77-74 triumph over Central Connecticut State. He wrapped up his week on Saturday by recording 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 89-77 victory over visiting Quinnipiac. Chappell became just the third Robert Morris freshman in school history to eclipse 300 points in a season, as his 305 ranks third behind only Myron Walker (342 in 1990-91) and Chipper Harris (319 in 1980-81). The Cincinnati product leads all NEC freshman with 13.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.8 spg, 1.0 bpg and a 37.0 percent success rate from long range.
