Chappell claims his third consecutive Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week honor for his efforts in leading the Colonials to a 2-1 record over the holiday break. Chappell averaged 15.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.3 blocks and shot 57.6 percent from the field. He recorded his first career double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against #25 Iowa on December 22, then followed with 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor and 3-6 from beyond the arc in a 109-36 win over Division III Medaille last Thursday. On Monday, the Cincinnati, OH native rang up 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals as Robert Morris improved to 2-0 in league play with a 95-90 win over red-hot Wagner at the Sewall Center. His fast-break layup with 25 seconds remaining gave the Colonials the lead for good at 91-90. Chappell currently leads all NEC freshman with 12.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.6 spg and 1.2 bpg. He joins St. Francis (NY)’s Allan Sheppard (2004-05) and St. Francis (PA)’s Darshan Luckey (2002-03) as the only first-year conference players in the last ten years to capture three consecutive Rookie of the Week awards.
