Wagner’s strong start - the Seahawks’ 7-2 non-conference mark is tied for the best non-league winning percentage in NEC history - has been sparked by Porter, who averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 blocks and shot 55.9 percent from the floor and 5-8 (62.5 percent) from three-point range in three games over the holiday season. Proof that Porter, an NEC all-Rookie pick a year ago, has elevated his game came on December 21, when the sophomore guard nearly engineered an upset of #12 UCLA in a 74-72 defeat at Pauley Pavilion. In that contest, he scored 19 points, including a 3-3 performance from beyond the arc, and dished for five assists. He added 11 points and three boards in a 67-54 triumph over Stony Brook last Friday, then just missed out on a double-double with 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks in Wagner’s 95-90 setback at Robert Morris on Monday. An Atlantic City, NJ native, Porter stands seventh in the league in scoring (14.7 ppg), third in free throw percentage (.865), fifth in assists (3.8 apg), eighth in blocks (0.9 bpg) and 12th in field goal percentage.
