A first team all-NEC performer a year ago and the 2003 NEC Rookie of the Year, McCavanagh tallied key goals in a pair of road wins for the streaking Blue Devils, who have won five straight and are undefeated (4-0) in NEC play. In a 3-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, McCavanagh gave CCSU a 2-1 edge midway through the first half when she took a long pass from Sophie Hopper and beat the Knights’ keeper in a one-on-one situation. Two days later, she broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 77th minute when she redirected Lauren Shepland’s cross into the left corner of the net in a 2-1 triumph over Sacred Heart. A native of Massapequa, NY, McCavanagh is tied for second in the NEC in both goals (six) and game-winning goals (three), and is fourth in points (14).
