Austin logged 10 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdowns to lead Monmouth to a 45-14 conference win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The senior broke his own single-game school records for receiving yards (228) and touchdown receptions (3). The Garfield, NJ product, who earned NEC Special Teams Player of the Week last week, caught nine passes for 197 yards and three scores of 20, five and 59 yards. He added a 38-yard TD reception on Monmouth’s second offensive play of the second half before the Hawks dialed down their offense in the 31-point victory. On the season, Austin has amassed 836 receiving yards through just five games, leads I-AA football in receiving yards per game (167.20) and is poised to become just the third conference receiver ever to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season. Sacred Heart’s DeVeren Johnson posted 1,157 yards in 2001 and Monmouth’s Anthony Galella collected 1,044 yards in 1998.
