Sands’ goal in the sixth minute was all Monmouth needed on Sunday in a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Lehigh. Sands took a feed from Megan Bry and beat a charging Mountain Hawk goalkeeper for her 30th career tally. Lehigh (6-1-1), ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region, had previously scored wins over North Carolina State and Villanova, and had permitted just one goal in seven matches prior to visiting West Long Branch. Sands also recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to St. Joseph’s on Friday and launched three shots in a 0-0 tie with Lafayette last Monday. She is the first two-time winner of the Brine/NEC Player of the Week award this season.
