Butler was an instrumental part of Wagner’s eighth shutout versus Iona, blanking the Gaels, 14-0, on Saturday afternoon. As the Seahawks’ offense struggled, the sophomore kept Iona at bay with a pair of first quarter interceptions. With Iona facing third-and-goal from the five-yard-line, the Syracuse, NY native picked off a Michael Biehl pass at the one-yard-line to halt Iona’s scoring opportunity. Butler then hauled in another pick at midfield on the Gaels’ next possession. The 6-0, 180-pound defensive back also finished the game with four tackles (3 solo), including one tackle-for-loss. He also broke up two more passes as Wagner pitched its first shutout since a 7-0 win over St. Francis (PA) in 2002.
