Sheppard collects his third consecutive Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week award after another splendid week that saw the Terriers extend their win streak to three games with an 82-71 win over visiting St. Francis (PA) and a 69-63 triumph at Quinnipiac. Sheppard averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the two outings. In the win over the Red Flash on Monday, he went 11-17 from the field en-route to a game-high 23 point effort. He also added three rebounds, a block and a steal. Three days later, Sheppard tallied eight points, six rebounds and a steal against the Bobcats. The red-hot rookie has averaged 15.0 points and 4.5 rebounds, while hitting a blistering 65.0 percent (39-60) of his shot attempts over the last six games. Sheppard, who hails from New York City, leads all NEC freshman in scoring (11.0 ppg; 18th overall) and field goal percentage (.550; eighth overall). He joins St. Francis (PA)’s Darshan Luckey (five in a row in 2002-03) as the only NEC first year players in the last ten years to claim NEC rookie honors three straight weeks.
