Shimmin, the NEC Player of the Year in both 2002 and 2003, provided the offensive spark in the Blue Devils’ convincing 4-0 shutout of Oregon last Friday in New Britain. The win was the first-ever for an NEC women’s soccer team against a Pac-10 opponent. Shimmin, who had yet to score this season entering the contest, tallied twice and added an assist as CCSU crept back over the .500 mark for the season at 4-3. In being awarded the sixth Player of the Week honor of her career, the Liverpool, England native put the Blue Devils on the board in the 39th minute, knocking in a rebound of a Jessica Kelley shot. Less than a minute later, she assisted on a Jessica McCavanagh goal, and then made it 3-0 off a pass from McCavanagh seven minutes into the second half.
