Monmouth sweeps the softball awards this week as another freshman, Dawn Gilchrist, powers the Hawks to clinch an NEC Tournament berth. The freshman batted .318 (7-22) with five runs scored, nine RBI and two home runs. She also logged two stolen bases. In Monmouth’s split with regionally-tough Rider, Gilchrist hit a two-run homer in the opening game, a 7-4 loss, and tallied a pair of two-run singles in the Hawks’ 10-2 triumph in the second game. The shortstop added a two-run dinger in the first game of the St. Francis (PA) sweep to cap off a solid week. On the season, Gilchrist is batting .292 with six home runs, 23 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a league-leading 26 runs scored.
