Stegbauer, the NEC’s leading hitter, becomes the fourth Central Connecticut State player to corral NEC Player of the Week honors this season after leading the Blue Devils to a 6-1 week. Stegbauer batted .500 over the seven contests, rapping out 16 hits in 32 at-bats. He had five multiple hit games, swatted two homers, scored 12 runs and drove in 13 more. After plating two runners as CCSU salvaged a split with a 19-6 win over Quinnipiac in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, Stegbauer went 6-10 with a grand slam and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island on Thursday and 8-12 with six runs and five RBI as the Blue Devils took three straight from Pace over the weekend. In the process, the Seminole, FL native established a new school record for runs (57) and tied a school mark for hits (79). Stegbauer, who has hit safely in 38 of 40 games this season, is batting .465 in 2004. He also leads the NEC in hits, runs and on-base percentage (.503). In the most recent NCAA statistics report, Stegbauer ranked fourth nationally in batting average and sixth in runs scored.
