Piazza’s NEC-best fourth Player of the Week award of the season comes after Quinnipiac extracted some revenge on former league rival UMBC on Saturday with a 7-0 shutout of the Retrievers, who had won five straight NEC titles prior to departing. Competing at #1 singles, Piazza rolled over the Retrievers’ Tia Kaasalainen, 6-4, 6-2, and teamed with freshman Gabby Pasternak for an 8-4 victory over Kaasalainen and Lana Khvalina. Piazza and Pasternak also picked up an 8-6 doubles victory in a 6-1 setback to Boston University, which has won ten straight America East titles. In that match, Piazza dropped her singles match in straight sets to Lindsey Dynof.
