HERE for NCAA Tournament Bracket
Bridgewater, NJ — Just one day after Wagner made history by claiming the program's first-ever NEC Tournament, the Seahawks learned their opponent for their inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance during the NCAA Softball Selection Show on Sunday evening.
The Seahawks are headed to the Lone Star State for the Austin Regional, which will begin on Friday, May 15. Wagner will make its Big Dance debut against No. 1 seed Texas. In addition to the Longhorns and the Seahawks, the bracket also includes Baylor and Wisconsin.
Coming from behind to take down No. 2 Central Connecticut and No. 1 LIU to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship game, the third-seeded Seahawks clawed back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat the Blue Devils and claim the program’s first-ever NEC Tournament title. \
The Seahawks, who saw an early 2-0 lead get wiped off the board thanks to a Blue Devils' three-run homer and a solo shot, got one run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI by third baseman
Sydnie Trujillo.
Wagner’s rally continued in the sixth inning. Second baseman
Leilani Gonzales doubled to lead off the frame before she pulled the two teams even in the next at-bat, scoring on an
Addison Day base hit. With runners on the corners and two out,
Geanice Morales pushed the go-ahead run — and eventual winning score — across the plate on a single to right field.
NEC Pitcher of the Year
Karson Zavala helped the Seahawks seal the deal in the title game. Throwing two scoreless and hitless innings out of the bullpen, she got Wagner out of a jam by retiring each of the first three batters she faced in the top of the sixth before closing the door on the Blue Devils in the seventh.
