Bridgewater, NJ -- With the first leg of the 2025–26 NEC season complete, CCSU has surged to the top of the Brenda Weare Commissioner’s Cup standings.
The Blue Devils racked up 64.5 points during the fall season, establishing a six-point lead over 2024–25 Cup champion LIU, which sits second with 57.5 points. FDU rounds out the top three at 54 points, while Wagner (47) and Stonehill (42.5) complete the top five as the league turns toward the winter slate.
CCSU’s early advantage was fueled by a dominant fall, highlighted by championships in men’s and women’s cross country, marking the program’s third straight men’s title and second consecutive women’s crown. The Blue Devils also captured the NEC football title for the second straight year, pushing them past LIU in the standings in the final event of the fall.
On the men’s side, CCSU also tops the Men’s Cup standings with 32.5 points, followed by FDU (28) and LIU (20) rounding out the top three.
In the Joan Martin Women’s Cup, LIU leads with 37.5 points, narrowly ahead of Wagner (36) and CCSU (32). The Sharks earned 22 of their points by winning the women’s volleyball regular season and tournament crowns. Wagner and CCSU stayed close by claiming the women’s soccer and women’s cross country titles, respectively.
CCSU was the only NEC school to capture multiple tournament championships in the fall, giving the Blue Devils a league-best ten titles since the start of the 2024–25 campaign.
This year, the Commissioner’s Cup points formula was updated as follows:
- 5 bonus points are awarded to NEC regular season champions in sports with round-robin formats.
- 8 bonus points go to NEC Tournament champions in all sports.
- Standings now use a bottom-up scoring model, where the last-place team earns one point, the second-to-last earns two, and so on.
- Cup points are awarded for all NEC sports, regardless of the number of sponsoring members.
